Two Reasons to Celebrate !
We are delighted to report that John Cameron has won a NAF 5 Star Hero award - well done and well deserved! Thanks to Liz McQuillan who nominated him, the club will also receive some prizes from NAF.To read her article please click here.
The GB Selectors have just released the shortlist for the team for the World Trec Championships in Mafua, Portugal, in September 2012 and one of our members, Rhoda McVey is on it. She's off with the squad to Portugal in March for a recce and was surprised and delighted to hear the news. Congratulations Rhoda!
There is a Newcomers competition at Muirmill on Sunday 22nd January and if anyone from Strathendrick RC wants to come, Rhoda will ride out with them on the short orienteering (an hour or so) and help them with the indoor obstacles. Contact rhoda@makingstrides.co.uk if interested. |
Our next event is our open to all Dressage Show on Sunday 5th February.
The schedule is now available to download. Sinclair Photography will be taking photographs at this event. |
Training Update
Due to the fairly healthy state of our club finances, we are pleased to announce that most lessons for members will now be available for £15. |
 |
Team News
Strathendrick entered a dressage team for the winter qualifiers for 2012. This took place at SNEC on 12th November, 2011.
Both Julia Cross and Charlotte Hall did a Prelim test, while Karen Young and Jackie Gillespie did the Novice test. All of our members acquitted themselves well but there was stiff competition so the team did not qualify. A good time was had by all - better luck next time!

Training Session Cancellation Policy
When we organise training events we hope you understand that we have to book arenas, instructors and pay for their services.
Consequently, please be aware that when you book a place for training you are, essentially, committed to paying for it. If you cancel in good time we will endeavour to fill your place and, should we be able to do this, then no charge will be made. If you are cancelling your booking at the last minute, ( i.e. giving less than two days notice) it becomes quite difficult for us to fill your place and we would ask that you honour your commitment to pay.
In order for us to organise lessons appropriately we are now going to close the booking button a couple of days before the event. Notice will be given on the calendar of events page as to when the booking button will be removed.

Area 1 News : October 2011
Dear Members,
A new year begins for all BRC members! The Area AGM will be held on the 13th November at the Cartland Bridge Hotel, Lanark, at 1pm. At the close of business tea/ coffee and scones will be served. This meeting is a great opportunity to meet other clubs, and to learn a bit more about what goes on…and maybe become involved! We have the following positions to fill:
Area Representative, Area Secretary, and Area Training Officer.
A nomination for the post of secretary has been received.
The Area Treasurer will send out the Liaison Fee notice for 2012. Clubs are reminded that fees are due before clubs enter the Winter Qualifiers.
Lothians Riding Club are running the Novice Winter Show Jumping at SNEC on the 30th October, including non qualifying classes. Almond are running the Novice Winter Dressage at SNEC, on the 12th November. Clubs are reminded that Preliminary Entries to HO have reverted to three weeks.
The weather this year proved to be a bit challenging, with many activities cancelled. I do hope those who managed to keep it all together had a successful season.. Congratulations to Amy Brown from South Lammermuir who was placed 10th in her Arena at The Intermediate Horse Trials Championships Winter training will be available again this year. As we are having a problem with the web site, secretaries will be informed, and training dates will appear on the Horsescotland activities page.
Kilmacolm and Kilallan Riding Club are in receipt of a grant from Awards For All. This will purchase portable cross country fences for use at the Houston House course. The fences will increase the technical training opportunities at lower heights, and will expand the 75cm and 90cm tracks.
Clubs will be rounding off their activities with awards to their members for success in many areas. The Area would like to thanks the clubs and their members , plus many friends who have helped throughout the year.
Best wishes,
Jennifer

Family Show
Thankfully the weather held and our Family Show went on last Sunday. We had good entries and hope that all competitors enjoyed their day. We are very grateful to the judges, stewards and stalwart helpers, for their invaluable contributions. Setting up and taking down the showground is a huge task and I have to say Winston Churchill's words,( you know..... the ones about 'the few' ) sprang to mind.
Many, many thanks to the few people who made it happen! |

Club Day Camp
Fortune smiled on us once again and we had a lovely day for the club camp. Instruction was provided by John Cameron and Tricia Clink, and facilities were provided by Katie Goldie - thank you one and all!
Katie worked really hard to organise this event and she ensured that everyone had a good time. The informal lunch on the patio was delicious - menu organised by Katie, contributions from everyone, and burgers cooked by Gareth. A good day out! |

Visit to the Weipers Centre -19th January 2011
Members and friends enjoyed a really interesting talk given by vet Patrick Pollock. Patrick told us about ' Equine Rescue' and we had a fascinating insight into why this is such an important initiative. Our four legged friends can't half get themselves into a mind boggling variety of dangerous situations and all too frequently rescuers place themselves in peril as they try to save them.
Rescue training is aimed at giving a more 'joined up' approach, allowing vets and fire brigade officers and police to clearly understand their roles and effect rescues without placing themselves or the horses in any unnecessary danger. (Click here to find out more!)
Following the talk we were treated to tea and homemade biscuits and then it was on to a tour of the Weipers Centre. At the end of the evening Tanya thanked Patrick and presented him with a small token of our appreciation. Then Nicola and Claire Hutchison presented him with a cheque for £155. Art student Nicola raised this money by designing, making and selling Christmas cards. She thanked everyone who bought cards from her and explained that she was grateful to the vets at the Weipers Centre for restoring their horse Heidi to health. |

Nicola and Claire meet ' Lucky' the model horse. Lucky always seems to be getting into trouble and provides the students with many opportunities to carry out rescue procedures! |
Website
We are hoping to give the website a bit of a 'makeover' in the near future and would like your ideas / feedback as to what should be included, style, colour scheme etc. I wonder if the artistic members would like a crack at designing a new club Logo to go on the banner at the top of the page? Let me know if you are interested.( Email morag@strathendrickrc.co.uk )
